HEAD coach Michael Marum knows that the opening rounds will be as tough as the SP PNG Hunters’ debut season, as the PNG franchise gears up for their second year assault on the Intrust Super Cup.
The former Kumul forward and his coaching staff are focused on developing the talented new players brought into the squad for season 2015 to blend in with the experienced players from 2014. “We have named a 26 man squad, depending on Warts and Thompsons trial with South Sydney. With the addition of the new players identified throughout 2014 we have a very strong and talented squad. It is fantastic that some of our players have gone onto the NRL through contracts and trials and it now gives the next crop of players a chance to step up and take the opportunity they have. The competition for spots is intense and we have seen a real lift in the quality of training.” “We have worked very hard in the off-season and now pre-season and I know the boys are looking forward to our first trial game against Ipswich on February 21st.” Marum said the club for the first time had a full preparation and it is showing; “The boys from last year are bigger, stronger and fitter. They have that experience now from a full season in the comp and know what to expect. The new guys have also adapted well and are training the house down. We have a very big, strong, talented squad with a number of players who can play different positions. It’s a new look squad but one I am very excited about.” The SP PNG Hunters have a trial match against Ipswich Jets at North Ipswich Reserve on Saturday 21st February, with the clubs season launch scheduled for Saturday 28th February in Port Moresby. The season opener is against the South’s Logan Magpies at Davis Park in Brisbane on Sunday 8th March, before the first home game against Redcliffe Dolphins on Sunday 15th March at Kalabond Oval. 2015 SQUAD: ADEX WERA ADAM KORAVE BRANDY PETER EDWARD GOMA ESAU SIUNE GEORGE BENSON ISRAEL ELIAB LAWRENCE TU'U NOEL ZEMMING ROGER LAKA SEBASTIAN PANDIA TIMOTHY LOMAI WILLIAM MINOGA KATO OTTIO ASE BOAS STARGOTH AMEAN WARREN GLARE PHILEMON KIMISIVE HENRY WAN DAVID LAPUA ATTE BINA WABO JAY JAY GARISSON BLAND ABAVU ENOCK MAKI WARTOVO PUARA – subject to train & trial contract with South Sydney THOMPSON TETEH -‐ subject to train & trial contract with South Sydney
