Runners up of the 2012 Digicel Cup competition Mendi Muruks will not participate in the semiprofessional rugby league challenge this season.
The Muruks and the Simbu Warriors failed to register their expression of interest as the competition for 2013 kicks off next month. Eight teams have registered their participation for the 2013 Digicel Cup challenge. And making a comeback is Hela Wigmen who will be playing their home matches in Mendi at the Tem Tei Oval. For supporters of long time franchise SBSL Mendi Muruks, this season may come as a disappointment as the team has not registered its participation for 2013. Key players Charlie Wabo and Jackson Undi will be knocking on doors to keep their ball game going. There will be seven venues that will be used this season and with a considerable increase with more spectators and family oriented venues, Interim Chairman of PNGNRL says the support from Digicel is invaluable. The PNGNRL is committed to Digicel as a major partner in the development of the game and to deliver an experience that exceeds expectations. Digicel PNG today announced its continuous support for PNG’s premiere rugby league competition for the next three years with up nine hundred thousand Kina each year.
