Mioks who shut out the Gurias 20-6 at the Lae Rugby League ground
The Timothy Lepa-coached Mioks scored three tries, one conversion
and three penalties against the Gurias, who despite starting off strongly only
managed a converted try for the whole game.
The LRL ground was packed to
capacity by fans who were joined by Morobe Governor Kelly Naru, who gave K1,000
to the winners, K200 to man-of-the-match Mioks Ryan Yama Kiso, K300 to the
Gurias and K6,100 to LRL club Wombom Piggery Brother of West Taraka.
captain Joe Kingal, who played as second rower last weekend in their loss to
Lae Tigers, switched back to his original and more suitable position as a
centre scoring two tries down the left edge in similar fashion however halfback
Willie Guambo failed to convert.
Danny Patrick was also strong with his
charges. Gurias second rower Emmanuel John sold a dummy before diving over for
the visitors only try which was converted by Quinten Ragi for a 8-6 halftime
score to the Mioks. The Mioks muscled up in the second half and the Gurias did
not cope well as ball control and the coordination of their sets fell away.
The aggressive Mioks through Guambo kicked three penalties and winger Charlie
Martin barged his way in for aconverted try.
