The squad will be reduced to 25 players who will be signed on for PNG’s debut season in the Queensland Rugby League competition.
The three-week camp starting today will be at the Bomana Police College and ends on December 20.
The players have been identified from the Digicel Cup, National zone championships and PNG Rugby League foundation’s schoolboys programme.
Head coach Michael Marum, who was officially announced yesterday at a media conference in Port Moresby said testing and training at Bomana will be at National Rugby League quality level, using the latest training, testing and gym equipment.
“We are dead serious and this will be managed at a level unlike anything ever before in the country,” Marum said.
“It will be a physically demanding and very tough camp where players will get an opportunity to push for selection in the 25-men squad,” he said
Marum said that most of the Intrust Cup sides started their off-season training in November “so we have some ground to make up, but I’m confident with the staff I have we will have them prepared”.
“We have a very talented group to choose from and the players have a big learning curve but with the proper training under a full-time professional programme I believe they can and will excel,” the former Rabaul Gurias coach said
