I WRITE to express my heartfelt disgrace as a Simbu being attached to the field of PNG Rugby league. I was following the Lions since the team started after couple of years being left out in the competition.
From my observation after watching several games and reading scores from media, Lions discredit Simbus’ name in the field.
Generally, Simbu Lions are the least performing team in the Digical Cup competition since last year when TNA stepped in to rescue the Simbus to send a team replacing the fearless Warriors.
Previously I was a die heart follower of former Simbu Warriors but after following the Lions for some Sundays I tend to lose interest which is not my intention, I believe some of you Simbus are the same boat.
Traditionally, Rugby League was the first game introduced into Simbu apart from other games, and if you are from Simbu you would recall a common phrase from our seniors in the field, "First Rugby Ball ol whiteman kikim long Hyde Park ground (Australia) kam pundau lo Dickson Oval" First rugby ball kicked from first field in Australia (Hyde Park ground) landed at Dickson Oval.
Former players build their belief on this phrase and become most of them become famous in the game. Now that rugby leagueL is becoming more technical Lions needs to improve both physically and mentally to become a competitive team in the Digical cup competition and maintain its repartition as former Simbu Warriors.
When looking at all the teams in the competition you would see a Simbu or two that puts their respective team more competitive. And for the home team, where are we now?
I would recommend the technical teams to pull their socks up in ensuring the teams perform to current standard in the National Rugby league.
I believe we got the necessary resources available but it reflects how we manage. And also the individual player to play with their heart for Simbu and not for themselves.
Please don’t let Simbu flag down.
