The performance of the SP PNG Hunters this season in the Queensland Intrust Super Cup has impressed NRL legend Andrew Johns.
Johns is currently in the country to launch Pacific Assurance Group’s new medical insurance scheme along with Gorden Tallis and David Mead.
The NRL legend said he is impressed with the team’s performance this season and their training regime.
Johns said the players are full time professionals as they live in the training camp all season and no other club in the world does that.
“Who knows where the Hunters can get to in the years to come, probably in 20 years time they may be an NRL team.
“We need more players coming through from the Hunters program and making it through to NRL because they’re built for the game, very aggressive and fit players,” Johns said.
He said Hunters have learnt a lot from the experience despite their tiring traveling schedule and have done exceptionally well.
“I have no doubt that the next five to ten years they would win a premiership. They play a brand of football which is unique, they are not over coached and they have a flare, its pure rugby league,” he said. PNGLoop
